A Psychological Roadmap for Donald J.Trump: Trump as a mentally deficient Demagogue
By Prof. Eric Lewis, concert violinist, composer, music philosopher and music therapist
This is a psychological profile for a very flawed and disturbed individual who may be elected to hold in his hands the awesome responsibility of our Nuclear Empire’s conquest for world domination. Donald J. Trump is the least likely candidate to trust with future events of this magnitude. His mental disorder borders on a psychotic diagnosis for a decompensating schizoid personality psychosis, which is held together in a patchwork of an aggressive, destructive anti-human matrix for all systems ruling civilized behavior.
It’s not a stretch to envision a violent event in outward projection of virulent toxicity for any perceived personal attack on Trump is, either real or manufactured. He would then let these actions rule in a panic-attack of self-protective and self-destructive modalities. Initiating his self-protective mode always transforms into a form of self-immolation wallowing in self-hatred, and an aggrandizement of self-worship as the “martyred healing savior “. In other words, he exhibits all the dangerous extreme traits of a pathological sociopath in the active phase cycling of inward and outward violence towards others and himself.
“Extreme’ is his next word of endearment. I remember Arizonian Senator, Barry Goldwater saying, “extremism in the defense of liberty is no vice” as a Republican “truth-teller” of the 60s. The Republican party has reinvented this phrase over the second half of the 20th century, meticulously fashioning, sculpting it, to accommodate our nuclear bullying in a fog of fear-art hegemony propaganda. They have enthusiastically made an art of the half-truth to project through its’ high profile presidential spokesmen, a false narrative starting with the genocidal criminal Richard Nixon to the Latin American murderer and destroyer of economies, Ronald Reagan. These presidencies were a warm up for the Bushes, father and son. Their presidencies were truly catastrophic with destabilizing consequences fomented by neo-con philosophies, leading to great recessions and an unbelievable attack on the “homeland” or is it “boneland” 9/11/2001 in NYC, the heart of our financial power. They co-opted this horrific event for use as a “black flag event” to heighten our military/nuclear/complexes’ plans for ‘world conquest’ (using ‘big-lie’ threats of Nuclear Armageddon) into an “end time battle” between competing religious zealots fanatically murdering in imitation of the siblings Cain and Abel for the favored status of the God Father. In their arrogance with tactical nuclear weaponry at the hip, we have entered the next phase of crowd control in a world woefully behind in its appreciation of the planet’s natural forces for maintaining balance.
The Republicans have been the political reactionaries blocking all thought in this effort to right the ship and heed the warnings, which proliferate daily from the American intelligentsia scientific and cultural. We are behind on so many fronts requiring “common sense” and “expectation violation” thinking that the doomsday scenario foretold by the ancients is again a palpable ‘reality principle.’1 We can now see the “Mass Psychology of Fascism”2 is reaching a level of absurdity with the “clown” candidacy of Donald Trump and his acceptance by the masses as a viable alternative to the rule of law, common sense, and decency. In this theater of the absurd there are millions, many more millions in the world who are struggling with the unbelievable in this American Empire political landscape. To restore a semblance of rationality, our hope rests on the native “common sense” intelligence residing in the deepest areas of our universal limbic brain matrices. It is a belief in the reassembled order within chaotic systems that continues our survival and fulfills our intellectual fantasies.
The Tony Schwartz ‘expose’ article written by Jane Mayer in New Yorker Magazine on Trump’s “ghost writing” fantasy book “The Art of the Deal” is the first resource for much of the missing and hidden Trumpist psychological roadmap.3 A list of personality elements and traits are placed at the service of psychoanalysts and psychiatrists involved in the abnormal psychology field to make sense of Trump’s “unhinged” reactions and plans for a coming Trump presidency. This is the most important exercise around the fitness evaluation for this position, but the country has through their faculties for “common sense” already made up a questioning insurrection around Donald’s boy/man ambiguous style of arrogant lying and personal attacks against all who disagree with him. His mental competence is a serious question, but the fog of fear and extreme anger of many years duration, has clouded their minds to the doublespeak and news speak blasting into their brains. They suffer from a daily diet of repressive propaganda at every turn through American society ‘s cultural and electronic media organs.
I’m using the article about the Schwartz/Trump relationship to form my version of a roadmap for Trump’s psychology to provide professionals who do this kind of assessment professionally on a regular basis to develop a more complete and telling analysis of the Trumpian danger. I’m convinced that rigorous analysis of Trump’s psychology will take them beyond the superficial labels now being used by the media (narcissistic personality disorder; schizoid de-compensation; borderline personality; paranoid instability; mental instability, etc.) The list of narcissistic pathology in Trump’s case needs further review, because in every trait category Trump defines the boundaries and goes beyond all parameters of the common psychological wisdom in such cases. His profile is a model for overlapping pathologies in primary and secondary intensities. The clinical list from the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5), published by the American Psychiatric Association (APA) describes narcissistic personality disorder in this comprehensive Wikipedia entry.
Signs and symptoms (DSM – 5)
People with narcissistic personality disorder are characterized by their persistent grandiosity, excessive need for admiration, and a disdain and lack of empathy for others.[8][9] These individuals often display arrogance, a sense of superiority, and power-seeking behaviors.[10] Narcissistic personality disorder is different from having a strong sense of self-confidence. This is because people with NPD typically value themselves over others to the extent that they disregard the feelings and wishes of others and expect to be treated as superior regardless of their actual status or achievements.[8][11] In addition, people with NPD may exhibit fragile egos, an inability to tolerate criticism, and a tendency to belittle others in an attempt to validate their own superiority.[11]
According to the DSM-5, individuals with NPD have most or all of the following symptoms, typically without commensurate qualities or accomplishments:[8][11]
- Grandiosity with expectations of superior treatment from others
- Fixated on fantasies of power, success, intelligence, attractiveness, etc.
- Self-perception of being unique, superior and associated with high-status people and institutions
- Needing constant admiration from others
- Sense of entitlement to special treatment and to obedience from others
- Exploitative of others to achieve personal gain
- Unwilling to empathize with others’ feelings, wishes, or needs
- Intensely jealous of others and the belief that others are equally jealous of them
- Pompous and arrogant demeanor
The Next Level of Increasing American Narcissism
A scaling of the ‘Narcissism Epidemic’ into world leadership roles of Sociopaths leaves us with the next stage of evolution in narcissist personality disorder. It is a level of genocidal mass murder from the cross breeding personalities with high levels of anti-social disorder and paranoid tendencies.
We have not come up with a way of addressing the worst elements among our race so we doom ourselves to a“darkness” that plagues humanity. Psychopaths do not feel guilty about anything they do. They do not care if they are wrong. They do not care about you or your children. As far as I am concerned that pretty much describes what the CDC and FDA are all about.
Marta Stout in her book The Sociopath Next Door says, “There is credible evidence that some cultures contain fewer sociopaths than do other cultures. Disturbingly, the prevalence of sociopathy in the United States seems to be increasing. The 1991 Epidemiologic Catchment Area study, sponsored by the National Institute of Mental Health, reported that in the fifteen years preceding the study, the prevalence of antisocial personality disorder had nearly doubled among the young in America, It would be difficult, closing in on impossible, to explain such a dramatically rapid shift in terms of genetics or neurobiology.”
Psychologist Martha Stout – who – clinical instructor in psychiatry at Harvard Medical School for 25 years – estimates in her book The Sociopath Next Door that as many as 4% of the population are conscienceless sociopaths who have no empathy or affectionate feelings for humans or animals . Using the U.S. as an example, that means that 12 million Americans are sociopaths. Because sociopaths are ruthless and will squash their rivals and burn institutions to the ground in order to reach their goals – but great at pretending that they care about people – they are incredibly destructive. Other mental health experts put the percentage of sociopaths at 1-3% of the population, which is 3-9 million Americans.
Robert Hare writes that he believes “our society is moving in the direction of permitting, reinforcing, and in some instances actually valuing some of the traits listed in the Psychopathy Checklist — traits such as impulsivity, irresponsibility, lack of remorse.” This is the kind of medical system we have created. In the United States the medical system is an efficient killing machine. [Euthanasia]
Special Note: Political psychopaths are even more common, especially in the United States of America.
“Psychopaths are scarier and much more dangerous than any of us think. They are the ones that are most likely the people to wield a power sufficient enough to hurt the entire earth. The psychopaths at the top of the human food chain are busy building a new world order that creates a stronger more centralized power where they can control every aspect of our existence. This is a problem because the psychopathic elite, not only can they not feel the pain of others, but their power and wealth are gained from deliberately causing others suffering.”
The last thing psychopaths want us to know is the truth about them. Psychologist and FBI criminal profiler Dr. Robert Hare describes psychopaths as “intra-species predators who use charm, manipulation, intimidation, and violence to control others and to satisfy their own selfish needs.”
Hare continues, “Lacking in conscience and in feelings for others, they cold-bloodedly take what they want and do as they please, violating social norms and expectations without the slightest sense of guilt or regret. There is a class of individuals who have been around forever and who are found in every race, culture, society and walk of life. Most everybody has met these people, been deceived and manipulated by them, and forced to live with or repair the damage they have wrought. These often charming—but always deadly—individuals have a clinical name: psychopaths. Their hallmark is a stunning lack of conscience; their game is self-gratification at the other person’s expense.”
Dr. Hare says that, “Psychopaths see nothing wrong with themselves, experience little personal distress, and find their behavior rational, rewarding, and satisfying; they never look back with regret or forward with concern. They perceive themselves as superior beings in a hostile, dog-eat-dog world in which others are competitors for power and resources.”
Part II:
The Continuing Roadmap to the indefinable in Trump – The Sociopathic Psychopath – Prof. Lewis
From the New Yorker article by Jane Mayer in her now infamous interview/ confession of Trump’s “ghost-writer” for ‘The Art of the Deal’ false biography, we have an extraordinary revealing of this book which Trump did not write and the hidden character behind both men. Why did Schwartz make this damning confession of his role in the myth-making “Art of the Deal”? Because as he tells it, after spending hours with Trump in the creation of this mythic journey, he concluded, “Trump is likely to lie about anything.” His evidence in this assessment are the many months he spent in observation trying to find the actual Donald Trump behind his personal artifice of ‘the false hero-prophet anointed by his own self-conception of American exceptionalism.’
This “charmingly brash entrepreneur with an unfailing knack for business” that Schwartz crafted into a mythical image; is now running for dictator of the most powerful Empire on the face of the planet – the American 21st century planet – killing Predatory Capitalist Empire. This terrifying image produced by Schwartz yielded for him the discovery of a deeply flawed boy/man with a narcissistic personality disorder.
Donald’s obvious failings as a human being are the subject of major investigations into his mental difficulties. Trump is considered by Schwartz to be, “pathologically impulsive and self-centered”, but these surface evaluations don’t even come close to the future diagnosis of the Trump monster that’s being inflated through a longtime evolution of his particular narcissistic circumstances.
Writer Schwartz viewed Trump at close range and then allowed his invention of him, a Frankenstein monster, to metastasis at a distance while enjoying his own ill-gotten gains from the book’s act of mythologizing perfidy. Schwartz found his silence about the book’s process demanding a reveal of what was now hitting him as an overwhelming guilt-ridden sin of informational half-truths. It was now clear to him that this resulting “fabrication mythology” was about to have a disastrous effect on the world’s population.
The frightening and uncertain future awaiting those who are seduced by what Texas political essayist, Jim Hightower calls, “dog whistling gone nuclear” was truly drenched in apocalyptic overtones. Trump’s entrance onto the Republican circus stage at the Cleveland Republican Convention as the winning candidate incarnate, provided the match for Schwartz’s fire alarm to be put into words of contrition for his ghostwriting “sin”. Hightower commented further in his blog on Trump’s howling speech:
Hightower commented further in his blog on Trump’s howling speech:
“…as a fear-mongering classic; with Trump whipping his nearly all-white partisans into a frenzy by depicting an American Apocalypse coming out of the evil darkness of dark-skinned people. Worse than that, it was calculated racism, allowing him to resurrect the lock ‘em-up, law and order, police state agendas of Dick Nixon and George Wallace. Trust me to protect you from those beneath you, he shouted from the podium, thus diverting the people from looking up at the penthouse elites of wealth who’ve actually created the social divide, anxiety, and anger that really do endanger America.”
Schwartz was forced to retell the actual observations he had experienced during many hours spent prying the bits and pieces of Trump’s distorted labyrinth of manufactured “truth”, which were deliberately manipulated in a non-confessional style. But it was a “strangely open” and disgusting amoral boasting exercise of Trump’s exaggerated non-existent successes that led to Schwartz’s growing concern. Finding Trump’s lack of intelligence disturbing, Schwartz found Trump’s obsessive focus on ‘power and money’ clogging his “common sense” and “human decency” even worse. These are traits identified by the psychiatric community as Sociopathic.
“I put lipstick on a pig,” Schwartz offers and “I contributed to presenting Trump in a way … to make him more appealing than he is.” More importantly he went on with a dire warning, “I genuinely believe that if Trump wins and gets the nuclear codes there is an excellent possibility it will lead to the end of civilization.” This is the observation of a witness in panic. It’s then that Schwartz speaks the first words that put Trump in the category/nomenclature of a mass killer. Schwartz in answering a question on his characterization of the “The Art of the Deal” in a hypothetic exercise to name it a very different book without his hyperbole invention – said it would be called the “Sociopath”.
I would conflate the word sociopath with ‘serial killer’ to explain the expansion of American middle class psychopathic growth in recognition of the American abused child ethos. It is time for vigilance as this generation of children takes their positions in the place of thousands of upper class Americans as an uneducated power elite.4 We are witnessing the maturation of a creature in the ‘Fascist Leader’ mold I would call the Hitlerian – Mussolini – Ayn Rand Virtue of Selfishness paradigm. This is a scaling of Trump’s pathology to a level of the wealthy and corporate class narcissism keeping pace with an expanding global human population of 7+ billion. The dysfunctional solutions for survival of humankind in this era of our extinction danger, has created a hierarchy of ruling psychopaths propagandizing moronic anti-altruistic philosophies. A world-order construction is being erected in a granite of non-compassion and non-empathic psychologies.
The “sociopath” is not a word strong enough for what we see in Trump’s evolving disordered state fed by the adulation of the crowd; as they adore the mythic savior in a paroxysm of ecstatic groupthink with paralyzing and lobotomizing effects for their own mass fearfulness. They are a small demographic in America, yet, expanding at a viral rate with 12 million psychopathic adherents at its’ American core, they stand ready to explode in any major change in catastrophe blown by the winds of civilizational crisis. Right now in this
Right now in this 21st century time-frame not even remotely reminiscent of that time between the World Wars of the 20th century, where the rise of anarchistic leaders like Hitler, Mussolini and Stalin in their murdering intent populated the devastated landscapes of Europe. We are not in those circumstances, which would provide the spark for the forces of a powerful revolutionary 21st century undertow. At least – not yet.
The colossal failures of government and purposeful sabotage of economic systems are not close enough for the release of forces necessary for popular unrest to create a Revolution. There is no hyperinflation, no health insurance crisis, we still have power in our energy sector, private home ownership, comfortable surroundings, automobiles, jobs, low employment, no looming major wars requiring young adult selective service – “the draft”, still in a country of massive resources, no foreseeable depressions, manageable recessions, distracted and entertained masses, self-medications of [nicotine, marijuana, liquors, sugar, caffeine, electronic gadgets, movies, celebrities, etc.], and a strong tradition of laws and governess [U.S. Constitution’s “We the people…] At this point in our fearful state it is still hard to see an immediate catastrophe in this election cycle with a Trumpist clown figure being inserted into a fairly comfortable American structure during this show’s future possibilities. The trick in our politics is the reaction of the system in an emergency. We philosophers are fearful of the unexpected shattering event – in a replay of the kind of mass panic we saw in the first years of the Nuclear Age. Our incompetent leaders of psychopathic tendency were asked to “improvise” in the atmosphere of mistakes born of “dominance” issues and how to use the awesome nuclear power of our technical inventiveness for a “national interest”, to bully the world and bend them to our illusionary “exceptional” will in a global hegemony.
The storm and stress, with a looming darkness is still far beyond the horizon. Trump is another harbinger of the Mass Psychology of Fascism possibility in the American Empire saga, but the time has not come for its full reckoning and implementation. We may have some time left for the offensive to begin in the restoration of our vibratory rights of compassion and empathy. For our intra-species ‘will” to bond with the ‘other’ for “common sense cause” in this world of changing natural forces, we must be awakened to an understanding and education of the man-made unknown technologies of consequence created as a resulting human, inventive “genius”.
Trump serves as a warning to dispel the myth of “it could never happen here”. The forces that drive the fascist toxin to metastasize in the nation’s body politic are deeply embedded in the populace. But the U.S. on an optimistic note, has enshrined the most powerful humanistic tools for survival in its capital city, Washington, D.C. and the documents attest to its founding in philosophy and wisdom to see the mystification of religion and race as its chief impediments to the all important principle of chamber music – “We the People…”, preamble of the Constitution and “All men (mankind; men and women) are created equal…”, of the Declaration of Independence.
We are in another era of testing as to whether those propositions will weather the coming societal class struggles and storms. These stated unambiguous bonding principles are the societal glue of our Republic on which our country nobly claims. Its world fame as a poly-glut nation in our almost miraculous success, are proof of the strengthening dynamic of racial and religious differences in a discussion of diversity and equality. Our watchwords of respect, tolerance, religious freedom, with equality between all in that civil discussion are in its’ fluidity: a constant state of re-examination. The insensitivity for the African American’s race history as slaves in the complicated American history is still mired in the horrors perpetrated by the white European settlers in their cruel and torture-filled Black slavery – our Achilles’ Heel.5 It colors our more basic instincts of ‘Emotional Plague’ inhumanity and the urges of our most virulent psychopaths and sociopaths as they respond easily and quickly to the demagogue’s “dog whistle”. It therefore fuels the imperial immorality of colonialism, interventionism, and worldwide slavery of the races by non – caring capitalists on a mission of plunder, occupation and genocide, material and economic.
This is a controlling regime by a class of corporate psychopaths with only one focus – power and wealth, which is for them the rationalization of “safety” and “protection of our way of life”. Unfortunately this philosophy doesn’t include their fellow countrymen or the working class that makes their acquisition of wealth a reality for them. The billions outside of their bubble are expendable in their regard, and therefore to be made ready for the chopping block. Their figure of 4 billion souls to be culled from the herd should make things quite manageable at 3 billion is their expressed goal.6 But then you can understand the plan and subscribe to this infamy with a change of your heart to the necessity of genocidal cruelty for all who don’t fit and “don’t do the work.” They have reasoned we are in deep need for the psychopaths to flourish down the street and increase in their number to carry out this most distasteful job that savages our delicate sensibilities. It becomes our conscious choice. Which path will we take for the coming crossroads? Have we passed the nexus of its hour for our concerted effort? Do we now cow tow to the brutal among us for a desperate reprieve?
Our primary advances have been around the issue of equality between races, religions, and the basic understanding of gender equality. This gender confusion in the basic relationship of sexual procreation swirling in a dysfunctional paradigm has been studiously addressed in our system. Of course, with great idealism in activism, this progressive surge was one of the great elements in the defeat of ignorant insensitivity, which the founding intelligentsia’s genius ‘willed’ into being without intention.
Schwartz said of Trump, “he didn’t fit any model of human being I’ve ever met. He was obsessed with publicity, and he didn’t care what they wrote. His maxim is “it doesn’t matter what they say about you just as long as they pay attention to – good or evil.” His morality is warped to only one thing in the public sphere,,. an all-encompassing celebrity in a ‘self-aggrandizement orgy of self-worship’ the therapists call narcissistic personality disorder, NPD for short. But Trump’s particularly aggressive intensity and anti-compassion make the list of narcissistic disorder, blended symptoms in Trump’s case, a pathological disease bordering on psychosis. Of this I am convinced.
Truths and Half-Truths Trumpian Style
“Lying is second nature to him,” Schwartz said of him, “more than anyone I ever met, Trump has the ability to convince himself that whatever he is saying at any given moment is true, or sort of true, or at least ought to be true.” The mass psychology of this lying regime is the human capacity for forgiving the small fibbing which are part of our behavior to keep the “veneer of respectability” in tact [Reich’s first behavioral layer] and float in a sea of minor slips for social web acceptance. This first layer is the civil politeness or as the politicos’ use of the catch-phase “political correctness” necessary for confrontation of competing philosophies and solutions fashioned from the point of view of authoritarian personalities in different environments of the chamber music principle. It is the covering veneer of civilization developed over millennia to continue the more self-absorbing; self-protecting; layer of aggressive, insensitive, cruelty held in reserve for the uncompromising attack of the “self” against the perceived – “other”. This is the description of our mythic “Pandora’s Box of Horror”.
To see beyond the second layer of human/anti-human fears and cruelty is the spiritual quest of mankind. Its disciplined training finds a home in the Arts and not in the religious institutions of our Emotional Plague design. The word ‘spiritual’ has been corrupted for so long that the human being now stands at the chasm precipice of annihilation without the natural connection to the earth and its’ nurturing “spiritual” powers of regeneration. It’s in the third layer, according to W. Reich, of our nature that the true core of our biology resides. In this era of crisis the best of our nature will be summoned for the benefit of species survival. Those who are handicapped by their childhood years of abuse will have to be rejected in their pathologies of authoritarian control modalities for a higher responsibility as leaders of the reform. Those handicapped individuals are trained for this new paradigm of human behavior and work and unfortunately the present corrupted, predatory “capitalist” system is in a desperate struggle to overwhelm and overcome their tyrannical parents who have provided the influence and wealth to gain the reins of national power for their parential feelings of inadequacy, betrayal, and abandonment. Their means for a drive beyond their fellow human beings is in the currency of wealth and privilege with religious overtones in a warping fantasy of revenge for the horrors visited upon them in their personal histories. These histories recreate the script for succeeding generations in a continuing path of l’morono.
When challenged about facts, Schwartz says, Trump would often double down, repeat himself, and grow belligerent. This is a familiar mode of behavior when dealing with the abused child. To make this unacceptable trait endearing for Trump’s audience of adoration, Schwartz invented a paradoxical euphemism, which is a masterful stroke of half-truth art.
Schwartz’s artful euphemism, Trump explains, “I play to people’s fantasies … People want to believe that something is the biggest and greatest and the most spectacular. I call it truthful hyperbole. It’s an innocent form of exaggeration – and it’s a very effective form of promotion”. Schwartz now disavows the passage. “Deceit,” he told me, “is never ‘innocent’. He added, “Truthful hyperbole’ is a contradiction in terms. It’s a way of saying, ‘It’s a lie, but who cares?’ “Trump, Schwartz said, “loved the phrase.”
Schwartz also revealed the palatable voice he had constructed in The Art of the Deal. In Trump’s words enshrined from the book [The Trumpian Scripture] it sounds like this, “I try not to take any of what’s happening too seriously,” explaining, “The real excitement is playing the game.” This was all calculated to make Trump appear boyishly appealing; having fun at the office.
Particularly laughable and offensive is Schwartz’s characterization of Trump, in the book, as an artisan of deal making. It is particularly offending when making comparison to artists who paint or write wonderful poetry. Schwartz says, “Trump was incapable of saying something like that – it wouldn’t even be his vocabulary.” Schwartz, according to the New Yorker article, sees Trump as driven not by a pure love of deal making but by an insatiable hunger for “money, praise, and celebrity.” After his daylong encounters with Trump, Schwartz would go home to his wife and report, “He’s a living black hole!”. In his journal, he describes the hours he spent with Trump as “draining and deadening”. This characterization is a reminder of the therapist’s unwritten warning concerning the narcissistic patient’s sessions as grinding circular logistical confrontations calling upon great reserves of psychological stamina often depleting the therapist’s healing energies and making effective healing strategies impossible.
Trump’s Studious Avoidance of Family History7
The speculation surrounding Trump’s mental fitness for the Presidency stems from the lack of family detail explaining Donald’s early life and family member interactions [father, mother, siblings, sister as judge, and his own multiple marriages and the children procreated from these liaisons] especially the relationship between he and his father are questioned in the fragments of the troubled ‘Donald persona’.
Trump is always closed mouth about his father when we the public see a loquacious, boasting boy/man who promotes a “confessional” Trump and yet, remains virtually silent on tales of his father8 and the dynamics of their relationship.
We can see Trump related to his father’s involvement in Donald’s life as a troubled youth not trusted by the authority figures in his family to make the necessary decisions that would continue Fred’s [his father] game plan for success and power.
Trump allows only a short, “my father believed in toughness,” but Donald’s vocabulary of warmth and loving kindness for Fred’s family and son is conspicuously absent from Donald’s recollection of his father. What was the true father and son relationship? This is the most disturbing element, which has gone missing in the psychological profile of this confusing personality. We seem to know next to nothing of his formation that includes a stint in military school for the hint of unmanageable behavior frowned upon by his family in their rise through the class rankings propelled by their up and coming wealth quotient. What was the story of the removal of the Trump boy from his “loving” family? What is the story of Donald’s relationship with his mother and his siblings? There is no vetting of this disturbing side of Trump’s public persona to engender any confidence in his presidential aspirations. My question of child abuse is ever present in this analysis along with a sexual history, which from our surface observations, screams obvious sexual repression of all sorts.
The article in New Yorker magazine touches the subject of familial ties this way. Donald, in his book, makes the claim of self-sufficiency, without help from his father or other family members, providing a narrative for political consumption of the “self-made man”. He does this by claiming his father gave minimal help for his amazing rise in the rough and tumble world of NYC real estate. Jim Hightower from his newsletter Lowdown clarifies this concern about his relationship to his father:
“First, [Trump’s] deplorable corporate practices, were learned from Daddy Fred, who built his son’s inherited fortune by milking federal housing programs in the 1940s and ‘50s, and then – as the landlord of these New York City apartments – flagrantly discriminated against black applicants. One of Fred’s tenants was Woody Guthrie (iconic American folk music legend), who was so appalled, he wrote about Trump’s greed and racism. No surprise then that son Donnie has enhanced his fortune by emulating the father’s business ethics, engaging in wage theft by outsourcing his clothing line and other brand-named products to low – wage countries like China and Vietnam. He also famously underpays undocumented immigrants to engage in dangerous construction work on his luxury projects.”
Donald the Populist
Donald J. Trump is not a populist! He is a congenital liar bent on world domination. Trump declares loudly, “the working man likes me because he knows, I didn’t inherit what I’ve built,” and in ‘The Art of the Deal’ he takes pleasure in belittling those wealthy heirs he labels as members of the “lucky sperm club.” The article then expands with more info from the Schwartz research on the theme of ‘mythmaking’ around Trump’s miraculous rise from “rags to riches” portrayal as a Horatio Alger figure. Schwartz revealed the father and son cabal to increase the family fortune saying:
“But his origins were hardly humble. Fred’s (father) fortune, based on his ownership of middle income properties, wasn’t glamorous, but it was sizable: in 2003, a few years after Fred died, Donald and his siblings reportedly sold some of their father’s real-estate holdings for half a billion dollars.” – Tony Schwartz
Trump speaking in the corrupted ‘Art of the Deal’ devotes a small space to his father’s influence in this, “as the most important influence on me.” His mentoring in Donald the importance of “toughness” was his father’s main legacy and beyond that Schwartz says, “Trump barely talked about his father – he didn’t want his success to seen as having anything to do with him.” This fabrication of Trump’s artful dodging has been debunked by other investigative journalists like Wayne Barrett, the famed Village Voice investigative reporter, who found a profound connection deeply rooted in the Trump finances and political influence on Donald’s behalf. Instead of Trump’s insistence on “my energy and my enthusiasm” for the mythic rise of an unaccomplished 29 year old, his father had co-signed many contracts (the Grand Hyatt Hotel deal) and also lent Donald seven and a half million dollars for Trump’s grand entrance onto the Atlantic City casino scene with other millions for incidentals, Barrett told interviewer Jane Mayer, “The notion that he’s a self-made man is a joke. But I guess they couldn’t call the book “The Art of My Father’s Deals”.
Donald J. Trump’s Ascendancy Part III
The Apprentice: Reality or Myth?
Donald Trump’s branding project accomplished by his father’s behind the scenes maneuvering and D. Trump’s celebrity madness; reached a high point in the sea of mass panic over the 2008 collapse during our middle class buy-in for dollars. This epic collapse with the culpability of all sectors of the American fantasy myth elements from real-estate to Wall St. stocks and bonds, provided Trump the volatile mix of fuels for his personal ‘scam empire’ vision to take hold of the American psyche in the Obama presidency (using an insidious ‘big lie’ fabrication questioning Obama’s U.S. nationality to delegitimized his presidency). With media compliance and collusion giving legitimacy for the “big lie’ fascistic technics of Obama’s critics, Republican and Trumpian, through the 24 hour cycles of cable-news, the masses were force-fed a diet of propaganda prepared and packaged by the worst elements of fiscal irresponsibility on the planet. To measure the unbelievably powerful American economy, which continues to support all from innocent to criminal in its grandest style as a “weak’ and “infirm” nation in need of propping up by a strongman dictator like Mussolini; is ludicrous. Except, of course, at the cost of our children of poverty, the old, infirm and those shut away either in ghettoes or incarcerated and enslaved in the Prison Slavery Complex as they are denied a step up beyond their sorrowful class.
Into this mix, Donald Trump inserted his TV reality show, The Apprentice, to satisfy the “extreme” consciousness of Trump as master puppeteer and “savior” willing to share the “secrets” of his con for millions of people looking for an easy way out of the trap. He and his corporate criminals constructed this for our unsuspecting populace in the moment of crisis they had created. It is a tried and true tactic for the purveyors of the “big lie” and they double down on delegitimizing the government and the constitution’s enshrined call of “We the people”. Now we are readying ourselves for the candidacy of this branded Trumpian phenomenon to run for Emperor of the World. And this he is doing with a 70-year history of serial lying in mega-propositions to avoid the father’s displeasure and wrath.
We would need to fill out the story of his mother and her role in Donald’s upbringing.9 No self-respecting analyst would attempt a coherent understanding of a narcissistic disorder of Trump’s monumental proportions without the intelligence of Trump’s relationship to his mother. In his case, the denigration of females and his open hostility to their inquisitional questions is open to speculation. What happened to Donald in his earliest years from female supervision either by his mother, sisters, or other nannies in the service of the Trump family for the care of him and all of the Trump children? His handling of women on the Apprentice is a compendium of his attitudes, which displayed, at least to me, a strong antipathy toward the female and their power physically or intelligently over him. Where does the bitterness come from and why is he feeling it necessary to explain, ”I love women. They love me. I have no problem with women” in repetition. His self-esteem is at an incredibly low mark and he doesn’t find these obvious displays to be embarrassing or contradictory destructiveness as a macho persona in desperate overreaching. Why is it he cannot apologize for missteps? O’Brien said, The Apprentice is myth making on steroids. There’s a straight line from the book to the show to the 2016 campaign.”10
“Sociopathic Behavior on Steroids”
The “extreme” narcissism of Trump’s exhibitionist display has had its entertaining side, but this is no entertainment. The question I pose is one of future actions. Trump has always projected his flaws in a transparence that defies understanding. It has revealed the non-thinking portion of the electorate and we now see the Reichian truth in analysis of The Mass Psychology of Fascism and the Emotional Plague in all of its convoluted human foibles. Trump has through the Big Lie and half-truth techniques given us a look into the abyss of inhumanity. Is this that same cycle perpetrated by the fascists of Europe in the 20th century updated with the new technologies of the 21st century? And how far will this cycle take us into the Black Hole of destruction? In the scaling of Trump’s personality characteristics with his influence of money, connections, star-struck celebrity seekers, are we on a path delineating the next sociopathic murderer of billions?11
Let me briefly go over the list of characteristics and traits of mass murderers in recent times of seeming endless incidents of slaughter. The United States by the way has the largest percentage of mass murderers in the world (not including sociopathic leaders in other countries). We are experiencing in America, a wave of sociopathic horror beyond our comprehension by mass-murdering deviants of unsuspecting innocents. From children in their elementary school sanctuaries to pleasure seeking adults in family and restaurant party settings, we awake almost daily to the nightmare of senseless violence.
The BSU (an FBI section called Behavioral Science Unit) List tracking killers:
1) Most killers come from an entirely different milieu than the young, black and Hispanic burglars, robbers, dope dealers.
2) Vast majority of serial killers are middle-to – lower class white males.
3) They range in age from their mid 20s to mid – 30s.
4) The great majority have low-esteem.
5) Many multiple murderers end up committing suicide.
Serial killing also turns out to be an immensely sexual process. This seems obvious yet the connection doesn’t seem to be obvious enough and is never made explicitly clear under investigation. To a one, these men nurture a sexually charged, homicidal fantasy for years before the killer can overcome his inhibitions and fully enact his private horror. Killers thus begin with petty crimes, only flirting with their deepest sexual impulses. Eventually, however, the fantasy becomes so compelling that it overtakes all inhibition. Yet, when they’re not murdering in a hallucinating daze, these murderers appear as anything but raving lunatics. Most hold down a steady job, own a car and keep up a surface appearance of normalcy – the very traits that lure unsuspecting victims. A large number of killers are even married, leading the darkest of double lives. Hannah Arendt’s immortal observation about ‘the banality of evil’ gives rise to the worst killers as pillars of the community retold by FBI agent Hazelwood’s notes.12 Theirs’ is a life of “normalcy”.
In psychiatric parlance, most serial killers are sociopaths – individuals devoid of empathy for their victims. At Trump’s scale I question the scale of Trump’s sociopathic tendencies. I think we are looking at a mass killer with delusional fantasies of paradox alternating between savior status and Hitlerian vengeance for past abuse justice. The ‘organized category of killers’ have tremendous anger toward women. Trump’s famous retort to Megyn Kelly after the second primary debate included a reference to “blood”. This reference was a direct attack on the female questioning Trump’s obvious gender bias when discussing women he does not approve of. [Rosie O’Donnell reference] His evocative imagery of “blood from her eyes or from wherever”, betrayed a tone of misogyny horror in his voice and imagination for a killer of women in fantasy. It was a chilling moment for those who study the abnormal psychologies of vengeful, bitter males repressed in sexuality showing the world their trophies of the women they have conquered alive or dead.
The connection between repression and murder has long been expressed in popular culture. From Hitchcock’s fantasizing murder dramas always revolving around the sex object blonde, being dispatched in movies like Psycho, Rear Window and Vertigo, we have evolved a genre of slasher films, snuff films, horror films, vampires, zombies to satisfy a deep-seated fascination in the connection between sex and the violence of the serial killers in a voyeuristic window to the cannibal layer of human behavior.13 This layer is so powerful it has been enshrined as a central rite in the Christen Eucharist as the eating of the savior’s blood and body [ in wine and wafer symbolism]. In mythology it was the Pandora Box of Horrors. Reich called it the second layer of psyche preserving aggressive, cruelty, brutality, and non-empathy.14 Lewis sinks further into the sub-layer of the second and reveals the cannibal layer where along with the ancient brain we find the impulses for basic survival techniques like appetites for food (protein); procreation, involuntary reflexes like breathing and ritualistic activities of sex; behaviors learned many millennia ago to overcome fears and needs for protection.
The cannibal layer is a survival mode in the ‘devour’ psyche of universal human behavior emerging directly from the limbic system of the brain. During the human evolution 2 million years ago, we experienced many eras of deprivation and it is in those periods of desperation when the history of common cause in cannibalism began and became wide spread. Lewis postulates the ritual impulses of human sex acts [in its oral fixations, the most obvious remnants of this devouring impulse for ‘protein survival food’, resides in the ancient parts of the limbic system, and are a source of aggressive actions then controlled by the cortex areas of the brain in symbolic triggers (intelligent analysis)]. These triggers are the ‘complexes’ interplay and determine the good and bad psychological parameters of the behavioral map of individual personality order/disorder balance. The construction of a civil or “politically correct” layer of respectability was a civilizational tool for the cohesion of the tribe, village, city, nation, and ultimately our world population growth. Hence the sociopath’s family background of origin hold many of the key elements in the map of Donald J. Trump’s personality disorder, which is complicated and dangerous. The withdrawal of “love” from the primary roots of the authoritarian family is a devastating blow15 to the psychopathic child and this then forces a course of redemption that is probably insatiable on the part of the parents. They are never satisfied with the “good” works of their child, usually because their model of behavior has the same self-hating aspects creating a constant sabotage to the basic biologic core of the child and parents in the “politics of the family”.16
Paraphrasing the Playboy Article on Serial Murderers
It is practically axiomatic that the white American middle class nurses a double standard about sex. Sex is used to sell beer, cars, and movies, but frank acceptance of active, healthy sexual relationships remain taboo. Parents continue to inculcate their
children with notions of “nice” girls who don’t pursue sex, and “sluts” who actively seek it out. Holding true to our Puritan heritage, Americans learn that even healthy sexual fantasies are “dirty thoughts” best kept to themselves. To this repressive sensibility, pregnancy serves as fitting punishment for illicit sex. Hence the fanatic zealots of abortion violence convinced of their authority from the fantasy God to punish all those making the sin bearable.
The American Psycho
American culture gives such an unforgiving double standard it is inevitable that many come to resent (and in the extreme, despise) the stimulating women used to excite the ‘seduced’ male who can now blamed them for their own downfall. This moral tension may express itself in sexual harassment; in the worst instances, it becomes a sexually sadistic need to seek revenge on “sluts and whores”. An example of the serial killer’s story is Joseph Kallinger now serving a 30 to 80 year prison sentence. Born in Philadelphia in 1938, Kallinger was adopted by Austrian immigrants who flogged him with a cat –a’-nine-tails, beat him with a hammer and threatened to castrate him. At eight, he was sexually abused at knifepoint by older boys and later enjoyed masturbating while clenching a knife in his fist His modus operandi was torture, mutilation, and the murder of young boys – including one of his own sons – before turning to random killing, Kallinger’s killing spree was prompted by a hallucination in which God told him to murder. Even after he was incarcerated, Kallinger expressed a continuing desire to slaughter every person on the earth.
Does any of this resonate in the psychological history of Trump? Are we waiting for the Pandora horror to burst forth from Donald’s cannibal second layer?
In America children are subjected to the worst physical and psychological abuse from disturbed, abusing parents – who are themselves products of repression and frustration – and remain hidden until it is far too late. By the time one of these tortured individual children emerge into the world, he or she is an explosion waiting to be triggered. It takes an act of will to deny the enormous role that culture plays in turning the American dream into a nightmare. In such a culture, who should be surprised to find sexually repressed conformists acting out pent up violent fantasies? Small wonder too, that most killers come from poor backgrounds adding a financial sense of worthlessness to their anger. In all respects, they know they have failed to live up to the wealthy, macho American ideal. Perhaps most important among social factors may be America’s long-standing celebration of lawless violence. A ten year-old can watch someone being shot through the head almost any hour of the day, but he can’t see a naked woman or man, other than on pay TV. For our official norm of entertainment, we have chosen brute force over good sex.
The American suburbs has evolved into a place through which people ride in the isolation of their cars and return home to sit, docile, in front of television sets and on their Iphones to catch up for the latest Facebook communications. The American killer’s breeding ground is a lonely landscape of malls, single-family houses and apartment dwellers who maintain an almost paranoid insistence on privacy. The communal radar which identifies serial killers is non-existent in America and ensures that disturbed abusive parents or troubled children are the invisible walking dead recognized too late for American Empire societal action to process corrective expectation violations. In American parents and teachers teach their killers to wear a mask of normalcy. A serial killer’s continued success largely depends on an ability to look like an average Joe. Repressed personalities who spout party lines fit right in.
American mainstream society, which demands tremendous social conformity, allows killers a ready camouflage. European men sit around tables discussing their private angst and anomie. Their American counterparts keep subversive thoughts to themselves and stick to the weather and the sports page. This “politically correct” behavior is now becoming another reason for anarchistic political-speak enflaming the American male to find new fields of risk taking. Flirting with violence is becoming the latest fad to find the adrenaline rush of subversive risk-taking and gender blowback in the male problem of role reversals and self-esteem crisis in the American version of sexual repressions.
A theoretical comparison of the middle class angst to the upper class of dysfunctional wealth yields a new psychological category for the mass murderer and genocidal demagogue given the means by a society in decline. These thoughts of primal paradoxical fractal scaling provide us with a road map to the abnormal psychology of the ultimate creature of evil – devoid of empathy and compassion. My candidate for the latest focus and danger for world peace is Donald J. Trump. The narcissistic “extreme” personality is an unusual person of psychological agency to ignite a delicately balanced world situation into the long foretold extinguishing conflagration. Tony Schwartz, his ‘ghost writer’ for ‘The Art of the Deal” reminds us, “I genuinely believe that if Trump wins and gets the nuclear codes there is an excellent possibility that it will lead to the end of civilization.”
Lists of Narcissistic, Sociopathic, Pathologies, and their Personality Types and Characteristics in Overlap with the Characteristics of Donald Trump’s Personality Disorders.
I found these lists (DSM-5) provided through Wikipedia free Encyclopedia a great help- and the underlined passages are my observations of Trumpis’ exhibited traits in his public reality show of humiliation.
Millon’s description
Psychologist Theodore Millon, who has written numerous popular works on personality, proposed the following description of personality disorders in general. Following my observations we see the pattern of a malignant narcissist in Trump with the potential for more growth into a genuine “monster” of epic proportions. Tony Schwartz’s nightmarish vision of Trump’s horrifying civilizational demise would be fulfilled.
Millon’s brief description of personality disorders[25] |
|||||||||||||
Type of personality disorder |
Description |
||||||||||||
Paranoid |
Guarded, defensive, distrustful and suspicious. Hyper-vigilant to the motives of others to undermine or do harm. Always seeking confirmatory evidence of hidden schemes. Feel righteous, but persecuted. People with paranoid personality disorder experience a pattern of pervasive distrust and suspicion of others that lasts a long time. They are generally difficult to work with and are very hard to form relationships with. They are also known to be somewhat short- tempered.[26]
|
Borderline |
Unpredictable, manipulative, unstable. Frantically fears abandonment and isolation. Experience rapidly fluctuating moods. Shift rapidly between loving and hating. See themselves and others alternatively as all-good and all-bad. Unstable and frequently changing moods. People with borderline personality disorder have a pervasive pattern of instability in interpersonal relationships.[30] | |
Histrionic |
Dramatic, seductive, shallow, stimulus-seeking, vain. Overreact to minor events. Exhibitionistic as a means of securing attention and favors. See themselves as attractive and charming. Constantly seeking others’ attention. Disorder is characterized by constant attention-seeking, emotional overreaction, and suggestibility. Their tendency to over-dramatize may impair relationships and lead to depression, but they are often high-functioning.[31] |
|
Narcissistic |
Egotistical, arrogant, grandiose, insouciant. Preoccupied with fantasies of success, beauty, or achievement. See themselves as admirable and superior, and therefore entitled to special treatment. Is a mental disorder in which people have an inflated sense of their own importance and a deep need for admiration. Those with narcissistic personality disorder believe that they’re superior to others and have little regard for other people’s feelings.[32] |
|
Avoidant |
Hesitant, self-conscious, embarrassed, anxious. Tense in social situations due to fear of rejection. Plagued by constant performance anxiety. See themselves as inept, inferior, or unappealing. They experience long-standing feelings of inadequacy and are very sensitive of what others think about them.[33] |
|
Sadistic |
Explosively hostile, abrasive, cruel, dogmatic. Liable to sudden outbursts of rage. Gain satisfaction through dominating, intimidating and humiliating others. They are opinionated and close-minded. Enjoy performing brutal acts on others. Find pleasure in abusing others. Would likely engage in a sadomasochist relationship, but will not play the role of a masochist.[37] |
|
Self-defeating (Masochistic) |
Deferential, pleasure-phobic, servile, blameful, self-effacing. Encourage others to take advantage of them. Deliberately defeat own achievements. Seek condemning or mistreatful partners. They are suspicious of people who treat them well. Would likely engage in a sadomasochist relationship.[37] |
Additional classification factors
In addition to classifying by category and cluster, it is possible to classify personality disorders using such additional factors as severity, impact on social functioning, and attribution.[38]
Severity
This involves both the notion of personality difficulty as a measure of sub-threshold scores for personality disorder using standard interviews and the evidence that those with the most severe personality disorders demonstrate a “ripple effect” of personality disturbance across the whole range of mental disorders. In addition to sub-threshold (personality difficulty) and single cluster (simple personality disorder), this also derives complex or diffuse personality disorder (two or more clusters of personality disorder present) and can also derive severe personality disorder for those of greatest risk.
Hotchkiss’ List of narcissism seven deadly sins:
Hotchkiss identified what she called the seven deadly sins of narcissism:[9]
- Shamelessness: Shame is the feeling that lurks beneath all unhealthy narcissism, and the inability to process shame in healthy ways.
- Magical thinking: Narcissists see themselves as perfect, using distortion and illusion known as magical thinking. They also use projection to dump shame onto others.
- Arrogance: A narcissist who is feeling deflated may reinflate by diminishing, debasing, or degrading somebody else.
- Envy: A narcissist may secure a sense of superiority in the face of another person’s ability by using contempt to minimize the other person.
-
Entitlement: Narcissists hold unreasonable expectations of particularly favorable treatment and automatic compliance because they consider themselves special. Failure to comply is considered an attack on their superiority, and the perpetrator is considered an “awkward” or “difficult” person. Defiance of their will is a narcissistic injury that can trigger narcissistic rage.
- Exploitation: Can take many forms but always involves the exploitation of others without regard for their feelings or interests. Often the other person is in a subservient position where resistance would be difficult or even impossible. Sometimes the subservience is not so much real as assumed.
-
Bad boundaries: Narcissists do not recognize that they have boundaries and that others are separate and are not extensions of themselves. Others either exist to meet their needs or may as well not exist at all. Those who provide narcissistic supply to the narcissist are treated as if they are part of the narcissist and are expected to live up to those expectations. In the mind of a narcissist, there is no boundary between self and other.
Malignant narcissism (This category strikes me as a compendium of Trump’s narcissistic personality disorders in its inclusion of secondary and tertiary diagnosis. E.L.)
Malignant narcissism, a term first coined in a book by Erich Fromm in 1964,[53] is a syndrome consisting of a cross breed of the narcissistic personality disorder, the antisocial personality disorder, as well as paranoid traits. The malignant narcissist differs from one suffering from narcissistic personality disorder in that the malignant narcissist derives higher levels of psychological gratification from accomplishments over time (thus worsening the disorder). Because the malignant narcissist becomes more involved in this psychological gratification, in the context of the right conditions, the narcissist is apt to develop the antisocial, the paranoid, and the schizoid personality disorders. The term malignant is added to the term narcissist to indicate that individuals with this disorder have a powerful form of narcissism that has made them ill in the forms of paranoid and anti-social traits.
The Mystification of Trump
Trump’s vaulted business intuitions are a large part of “The Mystification of Trump.” By 1987 when The Art of the Deal came out, Trump was already in a spiral of unmanageable debt; with a divorce from his wife Ivana at a cost of 25 million dollar and other debt producing projects piling up so fast that Wayne Barrett called Donnie’s life in a free fall immolation of “simultaneous personal and professional self-destruction.” This spiral of flaming descent, gained in ferocity over several years into the 1990s. It was the era of the Taj Mahal casino in Atlantic City with ballooning tax evasions (20 million of which disappearing with the election of Chris Christie); Eastern Airlines Shuttle becoming Trump Shuttle; a giant yacht he called the Trump Princess; and a ‘stable of casinos’ in various stages of development. This was all launched with monies from father Fred and his political connections, banking favors, and a network of nefarious friends like Carl Icahn [whom Donnie name-drops as a premiere deal-maker and his future financial deal-making ‘genius’ to do battle with the evil Chinese. This is the same Icahn we characterized as a “corporate raider” Geko-type, buying and then breaking up companies for purposes of pure “greed” without remorse over the ruined lives of workers caught in his corporate undertow shell games]. These, the role models fueling Donnie boy’s narcissistic personality disorder in its mega-growth through the 70 years of his psychopathic existence; now feel the time is right for the circle to be closed around his delusions as it spirals tighter and tighter into the maelstrom, drawing an entire world of mass adulating ‘suckers’ into his final aggrandizement for its ‘Götterdämerung’ conflagration of martyrdom made worthy of the “King of Con”. Trumpis is a mythical legend in his own mind. He is the greatest savior healer martyr, even beyond all those who have come before, of all time. Move over King of the Jews, Jesus, you have a pulsating, flesh and blood savior to worship in Trump, as it says in the Trumpet Gospel Scripture ‘Art of the Deal’ according to Trumpis – Bow down O Trumpians to your new and forgiving God – the Trumpster. Let it be written.

10 Narcissistic parents: Narcissistic parents demand certain behavior from their children because they see the children as extensions of themselves, and need the children to represent them in the world in ways that meet the parents’ emotional needs. This parenting ‘style’ most often results in estranged relationships with the children, coupled with feelings of resentment and self-destructive tendencies.[46]
